Barbecue Sauce

So I made the bbq sauce to go with our pulled pork which is now in the crockpot cooking away. I have never made homemade bbq sauce before (except for in class once) so I didn't know what to expect, but this turned out great and was really easy to make. I don't think I will ever buy the bottled stuff anymore. Homemade is so much better!

Barbecue Sauce
adapted from The Food Network


1 half yellow onion, diced
2 garlic cloves, minced
1/4 cup pineapple chunks
2 cups ketchup
1 cup water
1/2 cup apple cider vinegar
5 tablespoons light brown sugar
5 tablespoons sugar
1/2 tablespoon fresh ground black pepper
1/2 tablespoon onion powder
1/2 tablespoon ground mustard
1 tablespoon lemon juice
1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce


In a medium saucepan over medium high heat cook onions with some olive oil until tender, about 3-5 minutes. Add the garlic and cook for another minute or so.

Add all ingredients to saucepan. Bring mixture to a boil, reduce heat to simmer. Cook uncovered, stirring frequently, for 1 hour 15 minutes.

Take BBQ sauce and process in food processor until desired consistency.
